About this investigation

Ghost Hunt Leicester Guild Hall. Leicester Guildhall is a Grade I listed building and one of the oldest buildings still used today. The Great Hall was built in 1390 as the meeting place of the Guild of Corpus Christi (a small group of businessmen and gentry with religious connections). The Guildhall is one of the country’s best-kept, well-preserved timber-framed halls. History at its finest! Over the years, the Guildhall has had many uses. Between 1876 and the 1900s, it was Leicester’s first police station, and many criminals passed through its doors. In 1632, the town’s public library moved to the Guildhall’s east wing, which also housed several other libraries that remain there today. These included a 15th-century New Testament in Greek. But is it Haunted? Classed as Leicester’s most haunted building. Resident ghosts include the mysterious white lady who makes her presence felt in the library. However, many believe it’s not a lady but a monk. Let’s remember that the Old Grey Friars monastery used to be only 300 yards from the Guildhall, so maybe there may be some truth in the sighting of a monk! The Guildhall has so much history. There is no question that it’s haunted, but the public has been saying that since it opened its doors as a museum.
