Join Extours for a 90-minute journey through Swanage after dark, where fascinating local history meets ghost stories, folklore and an interactive exploration of the paranormal. Long before Swanage became the seaside resort we recognise today, this was a working coastal community. The sea brought trade and opportunity, but it could also be unforgiving. Ships were lost along the coast, sailors risked their lives in treacherous waters, and generations of local quarrymen worked in an industry that helped shape both the town and the wider Isle of Purbeck. As evening falls, your host will lead you through Swanage's historic streets and seafront, uncovering stories of the people, events and tragedies that form part of the town's past. Along the way, history gives way to something more mysterious. Hear local ghost stories, accounts of strange encounters and reports of unexplained activity associated with Swanage and its historic surroundings — and then have the opportunity to explore the paranormal for yourself. There are no actors, costumes or staged scares. Instead, the Swanage Ghost Walk brings together carefully researched history, storytelling and an interactive paranormal experience. At selected locations, guests can take part in optional paranormal experiments using recognised ghost-hunting equipment to see whether anything unusual can be detected. Participation is entirely optional, and you are equally welcome to observe. Important information The Swanage Ghost Walk is an outdoor walking experience and operates in most weather conditions. The route follows public streets, pavements and areas around the historic town and seafront. Some sections may include uneven surfaces, inclines and steps. Suitable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are strongly recommended. Advance booking is essential, as places are limited on every walk.
