Bawdsey Manor

Suffolk

No dates are listed at Bawdsey Manor right now.

Bawdsey Manor overlooks the Suffolk coast at Bawdsey, near Felixstowe. The house was built around 1895, with additions of 1908, for Cuthbert Quilter, and is constructed in a Jacobethan style. It is Grade II* listed. From 1937 the Air Ministry used the manor as a research station, and it was here that Robert Watson-Watt and his team carried out early work developing radar in 1936. The manor's grounds and associated buildings on the wider estate reflect this period of scientific research. Bawdsey Manor's combination of a late-Victorian country house and its role in early radar development makes it a distinctive site on the Suffolk coast.
