High Peak Junction

No dates are listed at High Peak Junction right now.

High Peak Junction, near Cromford in Derbyshire, was the transhipment point between the Cromford and High Peak Railway and the Cromford Canal. The railway was begun in 1825 and opened in 1831, and its workshops remained in use for maintaining rolling stock until 1967. The surviving workshops, offices and terminus buildings are a Scheduled Monument. Inside, an inspection pit with cast-iron fish-belly rails set on stone blocks survives, once used to support wagons undergoing repair. The rubble-built structures retain some early cast-iron window frames, forming a rare surviving example of early railway engineering infrastructure.
