Monks Manor Farm

The venue marketed as Monks Manor Farm in Cwmbran is properly known as Llanyrafon Manor, a Grade II* listed building. A timber-framed medieval structure on the site was possibly a food store for the monks of Llantarnam Abbey, before the land was sold following the dissolution of the monasteries in the 1530s. In 1616 the lawyer Walter Griffiths bought the site, by then including a stone house, and the manor remained in the Griffiths family for centuries. Much of the present building dates from the early seventeenth century. The manor later became a working farm before passing into the ownership of Torfaen County Borough Council in 2008, and it is now run as a rural heritage centre with local volunteers.
