Newark Town Hall, on Market Place in Newark-on-Trent, was built in 1774-76 to the design of architect John Carr of York, in Mansfield white sandstone ashlar and brick with a slate roof. It is a Grade I listed building, designated in September 1950. The building has continuously served as the seat of the town's civic administration since it was completed, with its civic rooms including the Assembly Room, Council Chamber and Mayor's Parlour. It was restored between 1989 and 1991 by Guy St John Taylor Associates and James Brotherhood Associates. In 1999 the town council opened a museum within the building, giving public access to its collections and historic interiors.
