Created especially for children and families, this one-hour walking adventure brings the city’s past to life through exciting stories, mysterious legends, comedy, magic and plenty of audience participation. Along the way, discover tales of Wakefield’s witches, meet the story of Old Billy the Bear, hear about daring highwaymen, horrible histories, strange inventions, mischievous ghosts and some of the unusual characters who once walked Wakefield’s streets. But can you work out which tales are history, which are mystery… and which might simply be rumour? This is a family-friendly adventure with spooky fun but no terrifying scares or graphic stories. Young explorers will have the chance to help The Curator, take part in the tales and prove they have what it takes to become an Official Junior Curator! 📍 The adventure begins at Wakefield WX and finishes near the grand Merlin’s Magic Shop on The Springs—the perfect magical ending to our journey through Wakefield’s rotten past! ⏱️ Approximately one hour🎩 Live storytelling, local history, magic and interactive fun👻 Recommended for children aged 5–12, although the whole family is welcome🎟️ All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult📜 Junior Curator certificates included Wakefield’s history is old.
