The Commandery in Worcester began as St Wulstan's Hospital, founded in the 11th century beside an earlier Saxon chapel. The oldest surviving fabric, the Great Hall range, dates from the 15th century, with substantial additions made between the 16th and 19th centuries. Since the Reformation the building has served in turn as a private dwelling, a Royalist headquarters during the Civil War, a college, and a printing works. It is a Grade I listed building, first designated in 1954 and last amended in 2001, and today operates as a museum in Worcester exploring the city's history.
