Armley Mills on Canal Road in Leeds began as a corn mill built in 1797, with a woollen mill added from 1805 onwards for the manufacturer Benjamin Gott and further outbuildings following in the mid-nineteenth century. The main range, constructed of coursed squared stone with a hipped slate roof, is Grade II* listed, having first been listed in 1951. The complex retains a restored water wheel and wheel pit associated with its original power system. It now houses Leeds Industrial Museum, run by Leeds Museums and Galleries, telling the story of the city's textile and engineering industries within the historic mill buildings.
