The building at 48-50 Lower Bridge Street in Chester began as a town house at street level around 1208, built for Peter the Clerk, administrator of Chester Castle. It was rebuilt above former Row level and refronted in stages during the 15th and 16th centuries and again in the early 17th century for Randle Holme I. The building was heavily renovated in 1935 and today operates as a hotel and public house, trading as Ye Olde Kings Head. It is recorded on the National Heritage List for England as a Grade II* listed building, first designated on 28 July 1955, reflecting its long architectural and documentary history within Chester's historic core.
