The North East Land, Sea and Air Museum occupies part of the former RAF Usworth site in Sunderland. The airfield was developed in 1916 and was officially renamed from Hylton to Usworth in 1918. It later became Sunderland Airport, operating until closure in 1984, after which most of the site was redeveloped, including the neighbouring Nissan factory. The museum now brings together a former aircraft museum, a military vehicles collection and the North East Electric Traction Trust on the surviving portion of the airfield, preserving the site's long association with aviation and transport in the region.
