The Old Prison in Northleach was built in 1792 as the county's House of Correction, designed by the architect William Blackburn. Further ranges were added around 1820 and 1844, one of which was later converted for use as a police station. The prison fell out of use as a place of detention by the 1930s, when some of its blocks were demolished, and the surviving coursed limestone buildings have since served as a museum and offices. The Old Prison is a Grade II* listed building, first designated in 1952 and last amended in 2012, recognising its significance as a rare survival of late 18th-century prison reform architecture.
