Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet

Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet stands beside the River Sheaf south of Sheffield, on a site where metalworking is documented from at least 1714. The surviving complex operated as a water-powered scythe and edge-tool works until 1933. Its industrial buildings and water-management features are now protected: the works are Grade I listed and the wider site is a Scheduled Monument. The surviving works, industrial buildings and water-management features document the specialist metalworking industries that developed along Sheffield's river valleys.
