The Blair Street Underground Vaults occupy chambers built within the concealed arches of Edinburgh's South Bridge, constructed between 1785 and 1788, probably to designs by Alexander Laing and Robert Kay. South Bridge is a Category B listed structure, designated in 1970, and the tenement buildings on Blair Street and South Bridge that sit above the vaults are separately listed at the same category, dating from around 1790. The vaults were originally used for storage and workshops before falling into disuse. Today they lie beneath the streets of Edinburgh's Old Town and are accessible on guided tours exploring the city's eighteenth-century expansion.
