Margam Castle near Port Talbot was built between 1827 and 1840 in the Tudor Gothic style, designed by architect Thomas Hopper for the landowner Christopher Rice Mansel Talbot. Constructed of ashlar stone around three courtyards, the mansion is arranged with an octagonal tower and gabled porch. It is a Grade II* listed building and forms part of the wider Margam Park estate, itself of registered historic landscape importance for its medieval abbey remains and later parkland. The house was extensively damaged by fire in 1977; subsequent restoration has brought parts of the building back into use, while other areas remain unrestored.
