Ryecroft Hall

Ryecroft Hall stands on Manchester Road in Audenshaw, Tameside, a Grade II listed building first designated in 1966. The house was built around 1860 as a residence for the Buckley family, local cotton manufacturers. During the First World War it served as a voluntary hospital with more than one hundred beds. In 1922, then-owner Austin Hopkinson gave the house and its grounds to the people of Audenshaw for use as council offices, a role reflected in its continuing use for community and civic purposes. The building's mid-Victorian ashlar construction and gabled roofline survive largely intact.
