Brecon Guildhall

Brecon Guildhall, on the town's High Street on the corner with Tredegar Street, occupies the site of a timber-framed town hall built in 1624. The present building dates from 1770, constructed after the earlier structure fell into disrepair. It was subsequently restored in 1809, and again in 1888-9, when the ground-floor arcade was infilled with brickwork and the roof pitch was raised. The building is Grade II listed, a designation first made in January 1952, recognising its long-standing role as Brecon's civic meeting hall through successive rebuildings on the same historic site.
