Ghost Hunts at George Jarvis School

George Jarvis School at Staunton-on-Wye grew out of a substantial charitable bequest left by George Jarvis, a London businessman born in the village who died in 1793. Trustees used the accumulated funds to commission a group of buildings, including a school, almshouses and staff housing, arranged around a communal garden and playground. Designed by the Gloucester firm Fulljames and Waller, the complex was completed in 1860. The school building initially operated as a boarding school before later serving as the village primary school, reflecting the charity's long-standing role in local education and welfare.
