The Golden Fleece stands on Pavement in the centre of York, within the historic core of the city. The current building is a rebuilding of an earlier structure dating from around 1840, constructed in pink-grey brick with an ashlar and glazed-tile inn front. It was refurbished in 1926 by the architectural firm Biscomb and Ferrey. The public house and its attached rear outbuilding were designated a Grade II listed building in June 1983. It continues to operate as a public house with guest accommodation in the Guildhall ward of the city.
