Mains Castle

Mains Castle stands in Caird Park to the north of Dundee. The fortified house began as a hunting lodge around 1460 and was largely constructed in 1562, with its tall tower's top stage rebuilt in 1630 and the east wing remodelled in the early eighteenth century. Having fallen into dereliction, the building was restored during the early-to-mid 1980s. It is a Category A listed building, reflecting its national significance as a fortified residence combining medieval origins with later architectural phases. The castle's setting within a public park adds to its accessibility as a surviving example of Scottish tower-house architecture.
