Mill Street Barracks in St Helens was built in 1861 as a volunteer drill hall, the kind of headquarters built across Victorian England for the Rifle Volunteer movement. The Merseyside Historic Environment Record dates the building to 1861 and attributes it, probably, to the architect George Harris. It remained in military use for over a century and is now home to a Sea Cadet unit.
