Ghost Hunts at Wortley Top Forge

Wortley Top Forge, near Sheffield in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley, is a former finery forge with origins in the seventeenth century. Its surviving stone structure, water wheels and functional layout date largely from the mid-eighteenth and mid-nineteenth centuries, with the roof rebuilt in 1880. The site is both a Grade I listed building, first listed in 1968, and a scheduled monument, designated in 1952, reflecting its national importance as a surviving example of early ironworking technology. Set beside the River Don, the forge retains much of its original water-powered machinery and now operates as a working heritage site open to visitors.
